Based on the acclaimed documentary of the same name, The Queen of Versailles is a funny, satirical and ultimately tragic musical fable that uses the story of billionairess Jackie Siegel and her obsessive quest to build the biggest private home in America to examine what has become of the American Dream. Jackie does what she has been taught to do by the culture she grew up in: always want bigger and never stop reaching. Yet the palace she builds — vast, empy and perpetually incomplete — comes at a devastating personal cost. Set against scenes of the Imperial French Court in the original Versailles, The Queen of Versailles asks: “Is more always better?” and “How do we know when we have enough?”
